Jim Perry: A Poetic Man

A Tribute to Brother Jim Perry:

by Bro. Steve Perry
Valdez, Alaska

Jim Perry was A Poetic Man.

That lifted God on high.

Some of his words made you think

And some you’d almost cry.

A word would jump off the page

And touch the hearer thus.

That if you did not get right with God

Surely all would be lost.

Other words he chose so dear

It brought Jesus close to our heart.

That through the Lord

We can all have a new start.

His words would exalt the Lord

And teach a lesson well.

Many a preacher could use his prose

To ring our conscience bell.

That we can share God’s blessings

And avoid the fowler’s snare.

That we can walk separately

From the world out there.

Jim’s poems are a blessing

His words were written with care.

Jim’s poems are still with us

To exhort and teach and share.

No doubt some will face eternity

As before their Judge they stand.

Knowing their hearts were touched

By Jim Perry: A Poetic Man.

In Remembrance:

James Louis Perry

July 25, 1926 -- March 11, 2000

It is with a great sense of loss that we must report the passing of Brother James L. Perry. He left the trials of this world behind on March 11, 2000 and is now awaiting the final trumpet to sound the first resurrection.

At age 73, Brother Jim had served the Lord for 23 years, having been saved at the age of 50. Many hearts were touched during those 23 years by his enthusiasm for the Lord and his child-like faith. He was often heard to say, "If God didn’t mean it, He wouldn’t have said it!"

Many of you have read his poetry in this digest and have been stirred by the piercing warning of his messages. Sometimes he made us laugh and other times his reflective questions would cause us to see the gravity of our actions as a twinge of conviction struck our hearts. Some of his poetry proved to be fodder for good sermons preached across the land.

It is only fitting that the poem above, "Jim Perry: A Poetic Man," was written by another Brother Perry (Steve) who is not related to Brother Jim, but felt a kindred spirit with him.

Brother Jim will be greatly missed from our local assembly. He fought a good fight, finished his course and kept the faith. His desire was that we would all do the same.

He wrote far more poems than we could possibly print, so we will continue to include them whenever space is available and until our supply is exhausted.
