Jesus Christ Did Not Take "My Place" On The Cross! By Pastor Michael Brigmond The song says, "I should have been crucified, I should have suffered and died. I should have hung on the cross in disgrace, but Jesus, God’s son, took my place." We have heard and perhaps sang those words and many of us have preached them. But is the message true? No, doubt the sins some have committed may cause the sinner to feel he ought to die. But the song says, "Jesus. . . took my place." The question we should all consider is this: "Who am I to think so highly of myself that I could even have a place on the cross." The scriptures tell us His fate was predestined from the foundation of the world. The place on the cross was His and His alone! It was a place that only He could fill. Death, yours or mine, on a cross would only accomplish our death. Nothing more. There would be absolutely no eternal salvation obtained for me, you or anyone else. To think that Jesus Christ took our place on the cross is bordering on the unpardonable, blasphemy against the Holy Ghost. Jesus was charged with blasphemy because "He maketh himself God." If we believe we had a place on the cross, then we make ourselves God. Let us rethink the songs we sing and not be deceived by tradition. [][][][] |
