Free Speech Must Find An Outlet By: Pastor Michael Brigmond (Reprinted from the View From the Lighthouse, Jan 1999)
The following letter
was written on November 29, 1998 to the editor of the Dear Editor: The article, "Jewish Mysticism: Out of the dark," (Nov. 28) portrays Kabbalah as something good for Christians to explore. Quite the contrary! Kabbalah, so named in the 13th century, had its beginnings in Babylon during the Jewish captivity (approx. 600 BC). Kabbalah is the source of all New Age thought, Wiccan witchcraft, numerous secret societies and goddess worship: the worship of Mother Earth. Jewish history is filled with idolatry. From the Egyptian captivity through the kingdoms of both Israel and Judah we see a people continually drawn into idol worship. This idolatry brought the anger of God upon them. If the wrath of God is what Christians want, then Kabbalah is the way to obtain it. In studying Kabbalah’s "tree of life" God is identifies as "Ein Sof," which means "nothingness." Kabbalists teach God as an impersonal substance who does not intervene in, nor care about, our everyday lives. Those who follow Kabbalah are anti-Christ. The Jewish people are to be loved as all others. But a stand must be taken against the practice and teaching of Kabbalah for the good of both Jews and Gentiles. The Christian church is, in fact, a Jewish church. Jesus, the Apostles, and the 120 on the day of Pentecost, were all Jewish. The 3000 conversions later that day and 5000 added soon after were also Jewish. It was 3 years before Gentiles were included. The church, the True Israel of God, is comprised of both Jews and Gentiles. Kabbalists are trying to mesmerize weak Christians into following fables. The New Testament Pharisees were Jewish Mystics pushing the same brand of Kabbalism. Jesus referred to the Kabbalistic Pharisees as vipers, hypocrites, blind guides, children of the devil, etc. He recognized them for who they were. We need to be as perceptive and reject Kabbalah.
