Consider The Ant
Observation by Brother Jim Perry, Kissimmee, Florida

Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: (Proverbs 6:6)

In a recent testimony, our resident poet, Brother Jim Perry, quoted this verse and then made the following observation:

When we talk about the ant and consider her ways we normally think about preparation for the future; storing up for hard times; or just being busy and not lazy.

I recently found a colony of ants had moved into my house. They were quickly taking over the whole place. My first instinct was to grab a can of ant killer and wipe out as many as I could. But I knew this would not get them all and my problem would just be prolonged. I needed something more.

So, I went to the store and bought an ant poison that would not kill them instantly, but something the little critters would take back to their home and wipe them all out later.

I put this out in several locations and watched as they proceeded to carry the poison back to their queen.

As I watched, I saw something different in that verse. Not only were the ants busy, they were TOO busy. They were so busy with their work, they did not even realize they were destroying the whole family!!!

Some people are like those ants. They get so busy with the things of the world, they end up carrying the world back to their homes and churches. Little by little destroying the quality and spiritually of both. Until, one day, without knowing what hit them, they are destroyed.

We need to be sure we are carrying the things of the Lord with both hands so there is no possibility we will be tempted to carry the things of the world that will destroy our families, our friends or our church.

Consider the ant and stay busy for God. [][][][]
