Backbone

To live your life for the Lord takes real Backbone

   That’s why many prefer to be left alone

And worse yet is the Backbone slider

   He weaves his web like a black widow spider

If he doesn’t repent he’ll be caught in his own trap

   And in the end, he will have to take the rap

It takes Backbone to obey the Lord’s commands

   They don’t fit with mankind’s plans

It takes Backbone to proclaim the truth

   For the elderly or for the youth

It takes Backbone to stand up for what is right

   When you know you are headed for a fight

It takes a lot of Backbone for the preacher

   When he knows not many listen to the teacher

It takes real Backbone to preach the Word

   Although you wonder if anything is heard

Backbone is what it takes for a man to repent

   What will they think, seeing him crying and bent?

It takes Backbone to endure until the end

   But along the way, on the Lord you can depend
